Dental Scanners

The inside of your mouth might not seem complex, but it is! Getting an accurate impression of your entire mouth including teeth, jawline and surrounding structures is a vital first step in a number of dental procedures. At Somersmiles, we use intraoral scanners to do this job. An Intraoral scanner consists of a few components – a wand like tool that attaches to a computer installed with scanning software. The dentist glides the wand around the patients mouth and as it moves, the scanner captures digital images which are compiled to produce a complete image.

At Somersmiles, we use the Zoom Whitening system for all our in-office teeth whitening treatments.

The Zoom Whitening system consists of a whitening gel containing 25 percent hydrogen peroxide which works together with the Zoom UV light to break down stains and discolouration. This system offers immediate results within a single 1-hour treatment.

Low dose x-ray

While dental scanners provide valuable information about the inside of your mouth, in many cases we will also use a Low dose x-ray to get a more complete picture of the condition of your teeth, roots, jaw placement and facial bone composition. While in the past you may have been sent to a specialist radiologist clinic for a dental x-ray, in most cases we’re now able to use our in-house low-dose x-ray technology to get instant results.
